Admit it… we all do it…

Every New Year’s Eve, we tell ourselves, our family, our friends, our Facebook “world,” how we intend to change our life in the coming new year. We talk about how we’re going to have better health by losing weight, exercising more, eating better, etc. I know… I used to do it too. And we all do it because deep down inside, we truly desire to have those goals and achievements for ourselves. But somehow, I never seemed to get there. Why? Because it was just “talk.” I “desired” to change, but I never really put it into motion. It made me feel good to say I was “wanting to change.” But I never sat down and wrote out a plan. I never sat down and diagramed how exactly was I going to change my weight, health, fitness, etc. So at the end of the day (and year), I just remained the same.

For 17 years of my “post military retirement” era, I left my personal health and well-being off my priority list. And it cost me dearly. I put on over 70 pounds in that timeframe. I ended up developing sleep apnea, high cholesterol, and hypertension. My knees were always killing me and I couldn’t walk a single flight of stairs without feeling winded. I stopped allowing family to put me into their photos, and instead volunteered myself to be the full time photographer so I wouldn’t be in the photo. Outdoor activities became a thing of the past. And I stopped coaching soccer as well. I was in a sad state last year.

In the Spring of 2018, I changed all that. I made myself a priority as far as getting healthy. I found a wellness system to help me achieve my weight and health goals. I assure you, the photograph I attached to this blog was not edited or photoshopped in any way, shape, or form. It’s my before and after photos, one year apart. I lost a total of 102 lbs, a size 36″ waist pant size to a size 30″ waist pants, and I went from a size XXL shirt (which I was about to move into XXXL) to the size SMALL shirt you see me wearing in the photo! And the part you can’t see in a photo is just how great I feel! I love how I look and feel. I’m extremely well-balanced these days; physically, mentally, and spiritually. All thanks to my health system. I love going outdoors and doing things with my family. I started coaching soccer again. And I started running a couple of months ago, something I was never fond of doing, and I now routinely run 3-5 miles a day and have run up 11 miles in a single run!
